Travel Inspired Connecticut Vineyard Wedding
Every detail of their celebration at Saltwater Farm Vineyard in Mystic, Connecticut was crafted with so much love (and talent). Now seems like a great time to mention that Amanda made every single one of the wooden flower arrangements you will see below. The vibrant pops of color and beautiful display of both of their personalities was evident throughout.
The guest book? A custom globe. Escort cards and guest gift? Gorgeous colorful luggage tags. Have I mentioned just how much I really love guest gifts with a purpose that are sure to be used and serve as a reminder for years to come? Every table “number” had the beautiful cityscape of Paris engraved on the wooden base of a city name - a great spin on finding a place to sit. From their Destination Engagement Session in Portsmouth in New Hampshire I knew I was going to want lots of time and beautiful ways to style Amanda’s ring. My favorite is that Amanda loves details as much as I do, so I arrived to an entire box of extra florals, an Eiffel Tower heirloom souvenir and several macaroons from Sift Bake Shop in Mystic (and knowing their love for macarons and the significant roll they played in their engagement, these were well utilized!). Amanda and I had been chatting throughout their planning process about the fabric choices, food decisions, etc. and I walked into this wedding knowing a lot about their day and being prepared for helping to craft a visual narrative reflective of their incredible relationship and that really makes all the difference.
Classic New England Church & Backyard Wedding
Working with Kelly and Stephen to document this day amidst a global pandemic had it’s ups and downs in planning, but I think after everything we can say that their wedding plans worked out exactly as they were supposed to.
We held to their original plan of a church ceremony in Branford, but the reception that followed took place at Kelly’s childhood home. Now, her home is not in just any neighborhood - it’s one of those neighborhoods they make shows about. All the kids grew up together, the parents are all friends, it seems the neighbors collectively raised each other’s children (giving a whole new meaning and depth to the phrase “it takes a village”), the group even had their favorite song that brought everyone out on the dance floor at once. I don’t know all of the details of the many years of friendships that have developed in this neighborhood, but I do know from experiencing the level of community on display for just one night, this is they type of community and we should all be fighting for these days. It was so beautiful to watch Kelly and Stephen have all of their closest people celebrating with them in a place with such history for them.
Elegant Connecticut Countryside Summer Wedding
And then Courtney began to walk towards Ryan and the sun came out. I could hear gasps of excitement from their guests, it was that noticeable. An undeniable sparkle and warmth from a sun we hadn’t seen all day. I’m telling you, I’m crying as I’m writing this, because it was one of the most redemptive moments of 2020 so far and I was there with a front row seat to witness.
Congratulations, Courtney and Ryan! I can’t thank you enough for trusting me in this season and allowing me to capture some of your most precious memories.
Possibly my favorite moment from their day were the two separate moments (both captured with photos you can see below) where shortly after they had exchanged rings, shared a kiss, both Courtney and Ryan looked down at their hands with the sweetest expressions, visibly realizing that the hand they were holding was now, without question, there’s to hold forever.
5 Date Ideas for the Engaged Couple During COVID-19
Are you recently engaged? Did you get engaged before the global pandemic, began planning a wedding and are now looking around wondering what the next year will hold?
I have a lot of feelings about this season, and I can’t imagine as an engaged couple all of the feelings you are working through, but I hope no matter where you are in life, if you are next to the one you love, you are supported and encouraged that in the chaos of the moment we become stronger. Stronger as individuals, stronger in our relationships - increasingly aware of the things that really matter in this life.
Awhile back I’d posted “5 Date Ideas for the Engaged Couple,” but I realized that I should maybe revisit and modify this list for those of you engaged during this season and looking for inspiration to lean into joy and dedicate time your significant other. So here goes!
Engagement Session - Stonington Borough | Tiffany & Patrick
One of my absolute favorite things about photographing in New England are the amazing and vibrant colors you can find on the coast - in the landscape and the architecture. Tiffany and Patrick’s Engagement Session was no exception with a beautiful sunset and so many gorgeous flowers in bloom. These two will be getting married this Fall and were ahead of the planning process, choosing an intimate wedding celebration long before COVID-19 changed the world (and with it, the way we can currently gather).
It’s been encouraging to watch their plans fall into place and have a chance to catch up as we walked around exploring this stunning coastal town - making this location even more meaningful is the fact that Patrick proposed here!
Engagement Session - Harkness Memorial State Park | Sarah & Jordan
After months of quarantining, getting to spend a beautiful evening hanging out with Sarah and Jordan for their Engagement Photos - well, it truly meant everything to watch these two interact and chat about their wedding plans. Their outfit selections were on point, not to mention, Sarah’s doppelgänger might be Cinderella and they both have the most infectious smiles.
Saying Yes to Your Dress
Choosing a dress - the dress - can come with some questions. Here are some helpful tips to walk you through the process and leave you empowered to look and feel your best on your wedding day!
The Stonington Meadows - Mystic, Connecticut Wedding | Meghan & Timothy
Meghan and Timothy are incredibly sweet and classy people - there’s really no other way to put it. In addition to this, boy, do they know how to break. it. down. on the dance floor. I’ve truly never attended a wedding where two people along with all of their friends and family knew every word to every song for an entire evening. At the close of the night, I’m pretty sure the dance floor was just as packed as when the night began - the true sign of a really good party.
They met in Boston while in college, and as they say, the rest was history. Timothy planned an elaborate surprise when he proposed and had brought their friends and family together to celebrate.
Their wedding day was full of beautiful moments (and heartfelt vows) displaying their history of falling more in love over the last 5 years and it was an honor to capture this next part of their story.
Congratulations, Meghan and Timothy!
The Stonington Meadows - Mystic, Connecticut Wedding | Trinity & Curtis
I remember the first time Trinity and I spoke on the phone - instantly drawn to her sweet personality - we chatted about almost everything and I fell in love with her vision for their wedding day. Even more than that, the way she talked about Curtis and their relationship had me so excited to meet these two. We decided on Harkness Memorial State Park for their engagement session, an especially meaningful decision as it was where they actually got engaged! In addition to getting to know Trinity and Curtis as we walked around, I also got to meet their sweet pup, Lulu, and Curtis’ parents (who generously volunteered to dog-sit while we explored).
Their love for Fall and the outdoors made The Stonington Meadows an easy choice for their wedding venue, with large windows and a beautiful view of the marsh behind. They couldn’t have asked for more beautiful weather to go along with this amazing venue and all that they had planned for the day.
Trinity and Curtis, thank you for trusting me to capture the love you share!
Harkness Memorial State Park Waterford, Connecticut | Rachel & Harrison
an we please just talk about how seriously stinking CUTE these two are?
Rachel and Harrison currently live in Arizona and when we chatted over the phone about their wedding, I encouraged them to still consider planning an “Engagement Session” even if it was just the week before so we would have the chance to connect and also give them some adorable New-Englandy photos while they were back on the east coast.
Well, I’m so glad we made the time. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to spend even more time with them in addition to their wedding day.
Trailblazer - Boston Voyager
Awhile back I had the privilege of being interviewed by Boston Voyager. Instances like this are such an honor and also a wonderful opportunity to be able to look back and see where I was, both personally and as a business, and what’s changed since. I wanted to share the contents of the article here on the blog to make sure I don’t lose track of it!
